Hematology

The Adult Hematology Clinic at SFGH is the only DPH clinic providing specialty care to patients with hematological disorders.  Services are provided to patients with a wide array of non-malignant hematologic disorders, such as hemolytic anemia, nutritional deficiency anemias, qualitative and quantitative white cell disorders, myelodysplasia, thrombocytopenia and coagulation disorders. Patients with acute leukemias are referred to UCSF for acute treatment, as are patients eligible for bone marrow transplantation.   Meshed in one of the Hematology clinics is a dedicated Sickle Cell Clinic.  This clinic provides comprehensive care and case management services for adult patients with sickle cell disease and thalassemia.  Consultative care is also available for patients with primary care at other sites.  A dedicated nurse evaluates all patients and referrals are made for specialty care, such as orthopedics and ophthalmology.
