The Interpreter Services Department provides language assistance to limited-English proficient patients and the deaf/hearing impaired. Interpreter Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Staff interpreters provide language services on site between the hours of 8AM to 12midnight. All requests for language assistnace at SFGH, including ED, Surgery, and all in-patient units are equipped with cordless Polycom phones that provide direct access to agency interpreter between the hous of 12midnight to 8am. Offices are located in the main hospital in room 3B18 and CHN headquarters on 25th street and is open M-Sat from 8AM to 12midnight. Language services are provided through several modes: videoconferencing, telephonic and in-person.
To access remote interpreter services:
- Between 8AM to 5PM M-F: call extension x65133
- Between 5PM to 8AM M-F: use pre-programmed interpreter phones (Polycom/dual-handset) to be connected to interpreters
- Between 8AM to 12midnight weekends and holidays: use pre-programmed interpreter phones (Polycom/dual-handset) to be connected to interpreters
